There are thousands of possible careers from which people can choose what it is they want to do in their lifetime. Other people choose to jump from one job to another, and though we are not here to say which is the right way to live, we are here to speak on one specific career choice. For that reason in this article Brian Setencich will be discussing the topic of architecture and why you should study landscape and interior design if you’re an architect or are looking to become one.
Architecture is a field that will continue to grow as we develop new land to build on. There will need to be an architect present to design the structure and calculate certain measurements. The architect is trained for specific tasks and it is up to them if they want to study other features of building. These include landscape and interior design and we are here to argue that every architect should study these fields as well for the following reasons:
- Higher
pay - Better design
- Project flow
- Better team management
- Flaw reduction
Be Competent In the Topics
Though we’re not saying that these architects should know every single thing about landscaping or interior design, they should be competent enough to know when something is going wrong, could potentially go wrong, or could be done better. However, if an architect is proficient and/or becomes certified as a professional landscape and interior designer as well as an architect then this will result in higher pay. Why? because the architect’s client will not have to hire a third party landscape design company and so the architect can provide the same services and receive the payment.
Similar Concepts
Sometimes when we mix two different, yet similar things we come up with new ideas that are better. This is the case when an architect can also design the interior and the landscape. It gives him or her more control which results in better design with a singular focus to combine three sectors. Because there’s no back and forth between the interior designer, architect, and landscape designer the projects can flow a lot faster because there’s no need to go back and forth reviewing designs if the architect is to be the one managing and creating all three.
Better Management
Finally, there will be better management on behalf of the architect and he or she can choose whether or not to hire third party personnel. The fifth reason is to reduce flaws. Oftentimes when there are too many people working on a project there are flaws that naturally occur. When the group is smaller, the risk of flaws decreases and will decrease even more if the person in charge knows about the three different design disciplines. I’m sure there are more reasons why it would benefit an architect to study both landscape and interior design after becoming an architect or during architecture school.
In conclusion in this article we discussed the topic of architecture and why it is a good idea that an architect study both landscape and interior design. It allows the architect to have more control over the project(s), can increase the pay, and decreases the potential flaws that arise from large projects. We would advise that aspiring architects begin to take courses, read books, or speak with professional landscape and interior designers who can provide some valuable information on how the two areas can help the architect and the project itself.
